5 Easy Muscle Building Tips
62
Often times people assume building muscle is too complex of a task to even bother with. With all the talk of supplements, calorie counting, reps, and everything else, one might think it is all too much to handle.
Other people are too scared to go to the gym because they think they are too out of shape to even go in there looking like they currently do.
Well, here are 5 easy tips to help you get on your way to getting that more muscular or toned body you have always been wanting!
Set a Routine
This is a very simple step that can have the biggest impact on your overall fitness. I know it helps me out the most by predetermining when I am going to go out for a run or go to the gym. If I do not stick to a schedule I will end up procrastinating and always putting my workout off until later. If you can tell yourself that you are going to go to the gym every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 7PM it will just become part of your weekly routine and you will end up actually working out many more times than if you just 'wing it' every day.

Drink Plenty of Water
Keeping properly hydrated is key. Many people get excited when they lose 10 lbs in a week, but the reality is that is mostly water weight and it is unhealthy to lose that much all at once. Whether you are going to lose weight or build muscle, your body needs a constant supply of water to carry out all of its necessary functions. You can not just drink water when you work out though, you must have this storage of hydration in place long before your body needs it. To increase the amount of electrolytes in your muscles which is key for muscle energy, a mixture of half gatoraid and half water is considered optimal. Signs of dehydration include:
- Fatigue
- Loss of appetite
- Flushed skin
- Heat intolerance
- Light-headedness
- Dark-colored urine
- Dry cough
Find a Workout Partner
A good workout partner can be highly advantageous to your fitness routine. With someone there who can help you stretch, spot you as you lift more weights and complete more repetitions, and most importantly push you to work harder and not quit in the exercises you do. Another key advantage to having a workout partner is the benefits of having someone there you have to account for you actually making it to the gym. If you are having trouble with getting yourself to go to the gym on a schedule, try to find a workout partner who works out at the same time you do and you will end up going more often to not let them down as well.
Get Plenty of Rest
This is another one of those things you can do to help your fitness level while not even being at the gym. The benefits to getting a good nights sleep can help you more than you know. Your body needs this time to help let the muscles relax and repair themselves, and your mental state of mind needs the time to recover as well.
Sleep deprivation can lead to serious health consequences over time that you might not even realize. Some of the problems you might run into according to include:
- Decreased Performance and Alertness
- Stress
- Poor quality of life
- Injury from accidents
- High blood pressure
- Heart attack
- Heart failure
- Stroke
- Obesity
Push Yourself
After you have completed all the above steps, it is time to ramp it up. Set goals for yourself and work to accomplish them. If you can go into every week just trying to beat your weights and times you set the previous week, you are going in the right direction. Always attempt to do one more rep, or 5 more lbs, or run 10 seconds faster. By pushing yourself you will get way more out of your workouts than if you just do the same thing every day. Always try to add in that one more, no matter how hard it may seem, because its that last one you struggle to push out that really helps you in the end.
How many time per week do you work out?

I know that if I do not plan my workouts ahead of time, I will have a harder time actually starting and then will not get a good workout because I'm thinking about what I am going to do rather than following my plan.
Great hub.
